SCHOOLS in East Lancashire are likely to have their names slightly altered as part of changing legal requirements which come into force in September.
Roman Catholic schools will have the word Roman omitted from the official title name of their schools and references to legal categories - such as county and grant maintained - which will not exist from September, will not be included in school names.
A report to Lancashire County Council's schools and general purposes sub-committee explains that the changes have come from the new school standards and framework act which has been passed by parliament.
The report says it is not a legal requirement for school names to include the category that they belong to, as long as the name is distinctive.
A school named after an individual or including the name of the town or village in which it is situated does not have to include the category to which it belongs or designation of the faith to which it is affiliated.
The committee will discuss the changes at a county hall meeting on Tuesday.
