MEMBERS of Bacup Golf Club fought to save the life of John Moffatt when he collapsed at the fifth tee on Saturday.
Secretary Tom Leyland said David Trickett and Michael Tighe, who were with Mr Moffatt, gave mouth-to-mouth resuscitation and massaged his heart while friends ran to the club house to alert retired Bacup GP Dr Noorul Talukdar.
Father-of-two Mr Moffatt, 47, lived with his wife Judith and daughters Rachel and Katie at Fernhill Drive, Stacksteads, and had been a member of the club since 1984. He worked as a sales representative.
Mr Leyland said: "Mr Moffatt had complained of a pain in his chest and told his friends he needed a rest and sat down on a form. He then lay on the form and then rolled off.One of the lads used his mobile phone to call an ambulance and the paramedics drove as far as they could and were then transported in the green keeper's vehicle to Mr Moffatt.
"They worked on him for at least 30 minutes and then transferred him to Rochdale Infirmary, but he had died. He was very well-known and was a regular on the course every weekend."
Mr Moffatt's father, also John, was a former vice-president and former captain, before he moved away from the Valley. His brother is Chris Moffatt, who owns Headmasters hairdressing salon in Waterfoot.
All inquiries to Anthony Johnson Funeral Service, Bacup.
