PETROL prices tumbled to £1.23 a gallon as two garages in Burnley town centre fought a price war that knocked a third off the cost of petrol in a week.

Motorists queuing for the cut-price fuel caused a traffic jam to the Gannow Top M65 junction as the two Trafalgar Street garages vied to undercut each other's prices.
