THE Prime Minister has told the British people that he and his government were in favour of abolishing the pound and joining the European single currency.
Mr Blair said he believed it would be good for the economy.
Perhaps Mr Blair has forgotten what he said in his election leaflet in the 1983 General Election - "We'll negotiate withdrawal from the EEC which has drained our national resources and destroyed jobs."
Also in April, 1997, just days before he became Prime Minister, Mr Blair said in the Sun: "The British people love the pound. I love the pound. A Labour government has no intention of abolishing it."
Obviously, Mr Blair has had a Damascene - like conversion to the cause of Brussels.
