SOCCER: Jubilee did what no other team in the Blackburn Sunday League has done this season . . . they defeated Old Toll Bar 2-1. Craig Andre had given Toll Bar a first half lead, but Rossendale FC manager Micky Graham equalised for Jubilee before Jimmy Rasul netted the winner.
Darwen Alexandra would have hoped to capitalise on the slip by Toll Bar, but they were held by Bee Hive. Craig Barnes gave the Cherry Tree side the lead, but John Haworth cancelled this out for Alex.
The top two sides met in the First Division with current champions King's Inn running out convincing winners with a 4-2 scoreline over New Gardeners. Warren Peake (two), Ray Booth and Paul Guinan were on target for the Mill Hill team with Craig Shorrock scoring both for the Darweners.
King's Inn have opened up a seven-point lead and must be considered favourites to retain the championship despite the fact that other teams have games in hand.
Some consolation for New Gardeners however, was that for the second month running they won the Fair Play League sponsored by Bleasdales of Blackburn, the main Hyundai dealer, and will receive another £40 voucher, which can be offset against league and pitch fees.
Station also lost ground in the battle for honours when they went down 2-1 to Sell-on-Site.
Chris Davies and Glen Fogarty were the marksmen for Sell-on-Site with Paul Curley netting for Station.
Lord Raglan and White Bull met in the all-Livesey contest and Raglan completed only their second win of the season after a run of seven defeats with goals from Neil Hayhurst, Steven Newton and Norman Wilcox, with Paul Yates scoring for White Bull. In the Second Division, Servicemaster look on course for promotion with a 4-1 win over West End. Servicemaster have lost one game all season and that was the first fixture on September 20 against Foresters.
Dexter Paints, also with only one league defeat all season, had an easy 4-0 win over Aqueduct with goals from Stuart Hopkinson (two), Mark Charlesworth and Lee Casey, and move to second in the table.
Foresters defeated Lammack with a solitary goal from Glen Smith.
The Moorings and Witton Inn fought out a 2-2 draw with goals from Dave Ainsworth and Dave Rolfe for the Moorings and John Rogers and Dave Cox for Witton. The Moorings did have some cause to celebrate though when they won a voucher for £20 for the most improved team in the Fair Play League.
Darwen St Peter's opened up a five-point gap on the bottom two clubs with a splendid 6-1 win. Keith Seddon with a hat trick, aided by one each from Mick Charnock, Mark Aspden and veteran Tony Curry were enough against Stanley Arms, still looking for their first win of this campaign, who only had a consolation goal through Mike Monaco. In the Third Division, Walmsley FC consolidated their second place in the table with a convincing 6-0 win over James Street who continue to struggle. Regular scorer Gary Walsh hit three, helped by two from Andy Mortimer and one from Craig Smith. Goals from Martin Haworth and Grant Jepson were enough for Uncle Jack's to move up to third in the league with a 2-1 win over Longshaw for whom Chris Doody scored. Stanley Racing had Mick Longworth, Steve Kay and Steve Errey to thank for their three points in their 3-1 victory over Marriotts Accountants for whom Gary Cronshaw netted.
Karl Eastham, Steven Almond and Paul Brett were on target for King Edward in their 3-0 win over Sign & Poster who continue to prop up the Third Division league table.
