PLANS to build more than 100 new homes on open land in Great Harwood have been approved despite neighbours' objections.
A scheme for 112 homes on land to the north of Harwood Lane, Great Harwood, was approved by Hyndburn development services committee last night.
Plans by Manchester-based developers Thameside Properties Ltd include two, three and four-bedroom houses opposite the junction with Shaftesbury Avenue. A mini-roundabout will be built at the sole entrance in Harwood Lane and the new roads will have traffic calming measures.
A previously approved plan for 97 homes on the site, formerly Record Mill, fell through after the developer pulled out.
When the previous application was announced residents sent almost 30 letters of complaint about concerns including traffic, loss of open land, road safety and devaluation of nearby homes.
