TYLDESLEY RU made a hard job of beating Windermere 18-17 in an error-ridden and dour game at Well Street.
Strong forward runs by Darren Edge and Ryan Grainey setting a good platform in the Cumbrian 22.
But the first of many turnovers led to a shock try for the visitors.
Dave Sivill finally put points on the board with a penalty; then he made a half-break before sending a long ball out for full-back Eddie Wallbank to power in for the TD.
Incredibly, Tyldesley let it slip again when a loose pass was snapped up for Windermere to go in at the break 12-8 ahead.
Then, from a lineout on the Windermere line, Lee West and Howard Hughes combined to drive forward for Chris Plimley to force it to ground with the assistance of Craig Shotton.
Soon after scrum half Lee Cunliffe touched down and Tyldesley looked secure.
But back came the Cumbrians for one final charge which earned them a try and a tense finish. Tyldesley were happt to hear the final whistle.
On Saturday Tyldesley travel to Rossendale for a non-league fixture.
The Seconds won 49-14 at Broughton with tries came from Butch Reynolds 3, Shaun Pulman 2, Mark Quinn and Dave Goulborne.
The Thirds won 7-0 with a Mike Howells try and Peter Mannion conversion.
