I HAVE read with interest your two articles on incorrect council tax bills to the elderly. I would question the statement "they haven't broken the law". It is the duty of the city treasurer and city revenue officer to be as accurate as possible in all their work.
The flu epidemic and yet another episode in the saga of in adequate computing (an issue the auditor raised several years ago) were the cause of the errors. Nevertheless some officers must have authorised the posting of these bills knowing they were wrong. Possibly they were desperate to get the money flowing in to pay for Henig's howlers.
Possibly the reason no apology has been given is that an apology would admit guilt. Is anyone willing to take them to court for dereliction of duty? Will they be allowed once more to carry on running the world they want it to be because nobody can afford to take them on?
At least somebody who has been wilfully served an incorrect bill should write to the ombudsman at York.
