I WAS intrigued last week by a notice stuck to a post on Quarry Road in the vicinity of the canal which informed anyone of a curious enough frame of mind to stop and read it that plans were afoot to develop the "old council officers on Nelson Street" into a site for travellers.
I considered that anywhere on Nelson Street would not be appropriate for such a venture but I could not think where any "old council offices" could be situated. I was beginning to think it may refer to the town hall, which almost adjoins Nelson Street. And then I thought what a good idea that would be! After all, come the local elections in May they'll all be travelling out of there anyway and the new lot may prefer to work from Morecambe. So if anyone thinks that a site for travellers in the middle of the city centre is a good idea then write to the town hall and support it. If you think it's as good an idea as any other the council has had lately then write to the planning department and object.
