THE sense of relief for many people in the area that the Prison Service has decided not to utilize the site of the former holiday camp at Middleton, must be overwhelmingly great.
Morecambe Neighbourhood Council along with other organisations spoke against the proposal at the public inquiry. The outcome of the inquiry seemed to deal a harsh blow to an area working to rebuild its tourism industry. The wait while the Prison Service decided whether to actually build or not seemed interminable at times. Now the threat has been removed, people can put renewed effort into developing the area for better things and look forward to a brighter future.
