CATERERS at HMP Garth in Leyland have been praised for their food hygiene practices and serving up healthier food to inmates by winning the 1999 Heartbeat Award.
Councillor Mary Wilson, community services chairman, presented the award to catering staff at the prison.
The Heartbeat Award was created by the Health Education Authority and the Department of Health. It is nationally recognised.
Endorsed by the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health, the award recognises good catering achievements.
HMP Garth is the second prison in the area to receive the award.
