THE Environment Agency this week welcomed news that the North West will be the site of the largest ever programme of water company investment.
Environment Minister Michael Meacher outlined to water companies the obligations they will need between the years 2000 and 2005, to improve the Victorian sewerage systems which still serve many areas.
The agency hopes river pollution will be cut as a result of the investments.
Preston will benefit from improved sewerage systems.
All water companies have been asked to include the programme of environmental obligations in their draft Business Plans, to be submitted to Ofwat by April 9.
