A LONG-standing Leyland councillor is recovering at home after suffering from two suspected heart attacks while on holiday.
Coun Marie Kirkham, aged 67, who has served the St Ambrose district for 16 years, was in Spain when it happened.
She was rushed into intensive care for several days before returning home, where she is being looked after by her extended family. The popular councillor is still undergoing tests to determine the exact cause of her illness.
Liberal Democrat leader Neva Orrell says it is unlikely that Coun Krikham will stand in this year's full council elections.
She said: "Coun Kirkham needs to concentrate on her health now. She has been a devoted councillor who is appreciated by all who have met her."
Councillors from all political parties have sent their best wishes to the councillor, who is renowned for her ability to speak her mind in the council chamber.
Council leader Gina Lewis said: "A letter has been sent from the council, expressing our best wishes in her recovery and I have sent my personal wishes via her party leader..
"At the end of the day, although we are at different sides of the political spectrum, she is a hard-working and popular councillor who we respect."
