SAVE the pound and dump the Euro - that is the battle cry being sounded by a German-born woman who lives in Leyland.

Retired school caretaker Gisela Seed has pinned a national newspaper's 'No To Euro' campaign poster in the window of her sheltered accommodation flat in protest at the new money.

Gisela, who lives with her husband Samuel, at Lowerfield, Farington Moss, says she wants to make it clear to her neighbours where she stands when it comes to the invasion of the Euro.

Despite being a native of Germany, where the Euro is controlled by the European Central Bank, she says she does not advocate any bid to make it the next British import.

She said: "I have lived in this country for a very long time and have always been treated good. I want my neighbours to understand that just because I am German born, it doesn't mean that I support the Euro.

"I don't want the money to change. I am too old and I don't want to be messed about.

"It's going to be hard for a lot of old people and the blind too, who could find the new coins difficult.

"And, I've also read that people who have savings are going to loose out under the Euro." After living in England for almost half a century, the mother-of-three says she would welcome a referendum to let the people decide the fate of the Euro in Britain.

She said: "The government haven't given people enough information about the Euro to let people know where they stand and what is going to happen to their money, which is a shame.

"There should definitely be a referendum so that people can decide for themselves."
