WESTERN Province batsman Lloyd Ferreira will be Rawtenstall's professional this summer, after they pipped North East club Hartlepool to his signature.
A right-hand bat with a top first-class score of 116, 24-year-old Ferreira bowls left-arm medium pacer in club cricket in South Africa.
Rawtenstall skipper Keith Roscoe said: "We have gone for a batsman because we need the runs. Keith Arthurton scored more than 1100 last season and that still wasn't enough for us.
"Besides, we have strengthened our amateur bowling with the return of Peter Seal from the Bolton Association."
Ferreira, who is rated as an attacking player, opens the batting in one-day cricket and goes in around number four in the four-day game.
