Culcheth Eagles 32 UGB Lions 12 TOP-of-the-table Culcheth proved too strong for the valiant Lions.

The home side raced into a 12-point lead with two well taken tries and two conversions by Eagles stand off.

UGB could and should have pulled level but the last pass went to ground on three occasions leaving the half time score 12-6 to the Eagles.

After the break Culcheth crossed first with a converted try followed quickly by the best try of the match by UGB's loose-forward Birkett converted by Pownall.

With the score at 18-12 to Eagles UGB lost both half backs Grimshaw and Pownall through injury. Culcheth took advantage of this and scored two more converted tries and a penalty.

The Mel Griffiths man of the match was G Grimshaw with C Pownall taking the Birkett Motors players player award.
