VALE of Lune made hard work of this tie after a great performance in the early period of this game. Alnwick's late onslaught was not enough in the end as Vale held on to collect the points.
Anthony Cadman converted after Chris Harrison scored a well crafted try only five minutes into the game. This was the first of five conversions for Cadman who had a good day. A try from Neil Bennets before Cadman's last conversion looked like enough to ensure a Vale victory.
However, Alnwick had other ideas and wave after wave of attacks in the final minutes almost pulled the game back for the visitors. But there was no time left in the end as Vale defended stoutly to retain their position at sixth in the league. Vale of Lune 27 Alnwick 20
