GIVE us a game! That's the plea from former professional Rugby League player, Sean Fanning, who is aiming to stage a charity match in the town on Sunday, March 28.
Sean, a lance corporal in the army based at Gosport, Hampshire, is one of the organisers of the Fort Blockhouse Charity Tour 1999.
The tourists, a combined services team made up of players from the army, Royal Navy and RAF, will be playing matches in the South of England and South Wales, before travelling up to St Helens on March 27.
And 29-year-old former Parr High School pupil Sean is hoping to stage a match in his home town to complete the week-long charity tour.
The former Leigh and Prescot player told the Star: "All the players on the tour have organised their own sponsorship to raise money for three charities, the Royal British Legion, the Royal Sailors Rest and the oncology ward at Haslar Hospital, Gosport, and it would be great if we could round the week off with a game in St Helens.
"Most of the lads are rugby union players but we would be prepared to play either code, or perhaps a half of each. I'd love to hear from any clubs interested in giving us a game or even a team made up of players from different clubs. It's all in a good cause and I have also written to Saints asking if they can help in any way."
Anyone interested can contact Sean on 0403 775732 (mobile); 01705 432439; or 01705 765894.
