Carnforth 19 Greengarth 5 THE elements played a strong role in this tie as a strong wind ensured that this was a game of two halves.
Greengarth chose to use the wind to their advantage for the first 40 minutes and really took the game to Carnforth. However, the second period saw a dramatic turnaround and a convincing victory in the end for the home side.
The Greengarth backs continually found gaps in the defence but Iain Parkinson was a rock in the back line making four magnificent last-ditch tackles to keep the score down. Greengarth eventually took the lead when their centre made a great run to set up the first try of the game.
The half ended well for Carnforth with both Walker and captain Shane Rich making telling breaks although Brendan Rich had to be replaced after injuring his shoulder.
A great try from scrum half Paul Jackson saw him skip past three players before scoring and set Carnforth on their way to victory. Props Moorfoot and Stubbs fought like lions up front and forced penalties which Parkinson took well to make the score 11-5. Parkinson was clearly enjoying himself as he went on to score a try and his third penalty of the match.
Three yellow cards and a head butting incident in the last few minutes marred an impressive victory.
