Eastwood Town 2, Radcliffe Boro 0

SCORING sensation Tony Carroll failed to make his mark on his farewell appearance for Radcliffe Boro as they crashed to another UniBond League defeat.

The master marksman, who has scored 36 goals for the Stainton Park outfit this season, had his chances but failed to convert any.

Boro dominated proceedings from start to finish but were undone in the first half by two set pieces in the space of a few minutes. Both goals were identical with Warboys heading home crosses into the box.

Boro's best spell came in the first half with quality football providing excellent chances for Paul Mullin, Simon Carden and Carroll, but all missed the target.

Eastwood hit the front 12 minutes from half-time, completely against the run of play. Boro again controlled the second half with Ian Lunt, Stuart Leicester, Mullin and Carroll failing to convert more excellent opportunities.

Manager Kevin Glendon said: "I was delighted with the way we played. The football was exceptional at times. Other than the two free kicks, Eastwood never opened us up.

"I love to see football played and anyone at the game will agree that is what we produced.

"We may have lost the game, but the spirit in the camp was great on the way home. We just need to improve our finishing now."

Despite Glendon's positive outlook, Boro's awful league form of recent weeks has seen them plummet to 14th in the table - a bitterly disappointing position for a team bidding for promotion at the start of the campaign.
