PUPILS at Leigh Central CP School are digging in for a brand new venture.
They have started work on developing four green projects in the Windermere Road school grounds, beginning with a secret garden.
The school has organised numerous fund raising ventures, including a sponsored yo-yo, attic sale, disco and fashion show to raise cash for the project.
It has also received backing from local industry and Leigh B and Q.
And it has been awarded £19,000 from the Department of Education towards the environmental development.
The work got underway with an appropriate assembly attended by parents and artist helper, Brian Edmondson.
Following this, work started on sketching and painting a tropical rain forest on the garden walls around the secret garden, where Groundwork Trust have agreed to step in to provide a nature area and benches etc.
Work is also to be carried out providing a separate play area for the nursery group, improving the entrance with flower beds and working on the front of the building.
Deputy head Jenny Haunch (pictured with Brian and pupils) said: "We have worked hard fund raising for this project which will bring big improvements to the school, as well as helping to educate the children."
