JOHN Callaghan, whose Gulf War veteran son John junior was found hanged in a Strangeways Prison cell in 1996, has appeared on the 'Close Up North' TV programme to tell of the despair and anguish his family have suffered since his son's death.
John senior, of Hawes Avenue, Carr Mill, and his family waited three years for an inquest to be held and believed they would be provided with answers to questions they wanted answering with regards to why their son had died.
But an open verdict was returned and the Callaghan family are now planning civil action against the Ministry of Defence, St Helens and Knowsley Health Authority and the prison authorities, for what they claim was a failure in duty of care to their son.
Talking on the BBC2 programme, John said: "I blame them all, both individually and collectively, that's who I blame for my son's death."
