DOLE queues are a thing of the past for trainees at 30 companies in Blackburn and Darwen thanks to a council scheme.
Blackburn with Darwen Council has distributed nearly £200,000 to finance training programmes for companies in the borough who have taken on new recruits.
The Single Regeneration Budget grants are specifically designed to encourage firms to take on previously unemployed people.
Home Secretary and Blackburn MP Jack Straw met workers who were benefiting from the scheme when he presented certificates at Blackburn Town Hall.
Companies who are involved in the project include: The Lancashire Evening Telegraph, Blackburn, Hobkirks Sewing Machines, Blackburn, Rectella, Blackburn, and Pump Street Garage, Blackburn.
