HAVING presented Robert Taylor with five goals, Burnley stressed today that they also made a gift of the match-ball for the Gillingham striker.
Contrary to reports in a Sunday newspaper, the Clarets didn't charge Taylor for the ball - supplied by manufacturers Mitre - which he had put in the Turf Moor net five times during the Gills' 5-0 win nine days ago.
Director Clive Holt confirmed: "Unfortunately we have had a bit of a habit of losing in recent times.
"We don't like it but we do it with some grace and the last thing we would want to do is charge Robert Taylor for the ball having scored five times with it.
"We would congratulate him on it and hope they would do exactly the same if a Burnley player scored five at Gillingham."
