THE word "racism," is a gift to anyone losing an argument.

One only has to toss it into a debate and it virtually brings that debate to a standstill.

Thus it is a convenient weapon for the Labour party!

Councillor Peter Kenyon (LET, March 5) should have been made to apologise for using it against Councillor Harry Brooks who fights vigorously for all the people of Burnley, irrespective of their origins.

What he is saying is what people are telling him. Remember that irresponsible spending affects every tax payer in Burnley.

I can also quote Shakespeare and I see the council "wastes its borrowed purse" (Merchant of Venice) and, to paraphrase Julius Caesar "Beware the 6th of May".

PAT JONES (Mrs), Bridgefield Street, Hapton, Burnley.
