BLACKBURN put in another impressive team performance against a subdued Rossendale side in this one-sided derby.
The visitors made their intentions clear from the kick off, with forwards and backs surging through some half-hearted tackling, they were encamped on the home side's try line
Following a series of desperate defensive tackles, Rossendale were unable to prevent the visitors creating two tries scored in quick succession by centre Gavin Kaye and wing man Rich Thomas. Blackburn dominated possession, putting their opponents under continual pressure, but were only able to cross the home side's line once more, for a well worked blindside move, ably scored by leading try scorer Mike Williams as the half ended 19-0.
With the wind now at their backs, Blackburn pegged back Rossendale into their own 22 for long periods. The forwards continually produced quality ball for the backs and, expertly marshalled by the rejuvenated Pete Newman at fly half, the visitors were in total command.
Inevitably, tries came at regular intervals throughout the half, with Mike Williams scoring his second, prop Keith Walmsley adding another, captain Mick Cottam crashed over following a mazy run and man of the match flanker Paul Warren rounded off the scoring after a break from a midfield ruck.
"It's encouraging to see all the lads expressing themselves on the pitch. They're reaping the rewards from all their hard work put in on training nights" enthused coach Graham Bancroft after the game.
