GOVERNORS are to be allowed to decide for themselves whether beef should be served to children in Blackburn and Darwen schools.
Each school will make its own decision in consultation with parents although schools which do decide to put beef back on the menu will have to provide an alternative for those who do not with to eat it.
A ban on beef products, such as frozen beefburgers has not been lifted by Blackburn with Darwen Council, because it is more difficult to trace the origin of frozen products.
Lancashire County Council has already lifted its ban on beef and has ensured children who prefer not to eat beef are provided with a choice.
