COUNCILLORS have approved a grant for a community centre to help set up a £50,000 training programme for voluntary groups.
The Trinity Youth and Community Centre in Parson Lane, Clitheroe, has been given European cash for its Ribble Valley Capacity Building project.
The funds are being matched by Lancashire County Council and the Hyndburn and Ribble Valley Council for Voluntary Service. And now Ribble Valley Council is to contribute to the scheme.
The project will start with an audit of voluntary and community groups to establish the training needs of organisations.
A coordinated programme of training and support will then be provided so that organisations can be managed more effectively.
Ribble Valley Council's economic development officer Andy Ashcroft said: "The Government is increasingly looking at partnerships to deliver regeneration projects. It is essential that Ribble Valley has the skills and abilities available in the voluntary sector and community groups to establish effective partnerships in bidding for funds."
Members of the council's planning committee approved a £6,000 contribution to the scheme over three years.
