THE FA Cup was back in Burnley yesterday - 85 years after it was last won by a Burnley team.

The Axa-sponsored trophy was on display at a "football crazy'' day at Brunshaw County Primary School. Among the guests were six members of the Wembley final team from 1962, Tommy Cummings, John Connelly, Jimmy McIlroy, Alex Elder, Brian Miller and Jimmy Robson. Burnley lost to Spurs.

Mayor and Mayoress Coun Eric Selby and his wife, Vera, were also there along with Axa representatives and members of the Burnley FC community project liaison team and members of the England and Wales international ladies football squads who helped coach the school's younger pupils.

All 350 children took part in football skills training or in an afternoon tournament in the leisure centre at Turf Moor. Head teacher Neil Tranmer said: "It was certainly a brilliant day for the children. It was also probably my most special day I have had at school in 25 years in the job."

The day included a raffle for prizes donated by Axa, Burnley FC and Nationwide who sponsor the football league.

Money raised will be split between providing IT equipment for the school and for sport in the community for local disabled children.

The day was the idea of head of infants, Sue Maxwell, who wrote to Axa, knowing their support for grass roots soccer.
