POLICE have issued descriptions of two men who pushed past an elderly lady when she answered the front door of her home in Duerden Street.

They claimed to be from the council checking for damp and forced their way in when she did not believe them. She told them to leave the house on several occasions but they carried on with their search and stole a gent's wallet, cash, a small brass carriage clock and a pearl necklace. As they left they even asked the old lady to check to see if anything was missing.

One man is described as white, in his twenties, with black hair, 5ft 10ins tall, slim and clean shaven with a sallow complexion. He was tidily dressed with a black zip-up jacket, black trousers and black shoes.

He did not have a local accent but is believed to be from the north west.

The other offender is white, also in his twenties, with black hair, 5ft 7ins tall, slim, clean shaven and also with a sallow complexion.

He was wearing a black zip-up jacket with red piping on the collar, dark trousers and dark shoes.

The incident happened early on the afternoon of March 1. Anyone with information is asked to contact Crimestoppers in anonymity on 0800 555111.
