GOOD news for those disappointed by missing out on the first run of Rainford author Brian Tarry's latest publication, 'The Lost Pubs of St Helens' (reviewed on this page last week).
He plans a follow-up print run. But for those who can't wait, three copies of the 104-page book of fascinating frothy facts have now been placed in the St Helens Central Library for the benefit of the borrowing public. And additional copies have been supplied to the borough's various branch libraries.
While on the subject of dedicated arm-bending, has anyone got a picture of the old Mill House pub, Watery Lane, Sutton?
If so, June Hesketh of Rookery Lane, Rainford, would be pleased to know.
Explaining her keenness to see such photographic evidence, June says that one of her forebears, Humphrey Leadbetter once ran that old-time watering hole, demolished years ago.
Her great-grandma, Martha, also held the licence there before becoming landlady of the Little Pig (Victoria Vaults) at Sutton, during her stint of 52 years as a licensee with Greenall Whitley.
June says: "I'd love to see further information or photos."
ANYONE able to oblige can drop me a line at the Star.
