IF our MP, Mr David Chaytor, is so committed to scrapping the pound in favour of the Euro, he doesn't have to wait for Tony Blair to call a snap General Election in 2000 to convince the electorate of his arguments (Bury Times, March 5).
There is nothing stopping him resigning his seat in Bury North right now to fight a new by-election campaign with his commitment to abolishing our currency out in the open. Perhaps then Labour would have a mandate to spend hundreds of millions of pounds of our money preparing to scrap the pound.
Go on, Mr Chaytor. If you're right, who not ask the electorate in Bury North to support you on this vital issue.
PETE JACKSON,
Ramsbottom.
