THERE'S a mole at the heart of South Ribble Borough Council.
But don't be alarmed, the offices are delighted to play host to this furry creature.
The mole is Lancashire's mascot for the Waste Awareness Campaign, which aims to reduce the mountains of rubbish produced by householders.
Residents in South Ribble currently create around 31,000 tons of waste each year, of which just eight per cent is recycled. The rest is dumped in landfill sites at Ulnes Walton.
Organisers behind the project, who have already plastered the un-named mole onto dustbin trucks in the borough, hope to re-educate people about rubbish by teaching them the three Rs - recycling rubbish, re-using rubbish and reducing rubbish.
Carole Taylor, recycling officer, said: "We want people to use the council's recycling facilities more but there is more they can do as well. They should avoid buying over-packaged goods, try using more re-usable products, like rechargeable batteries and avoid disposable products."
