FYLDE teams have been getting the thick end of it in the Lancashire small table snooker championship and fill only five of the last 16 places.
However, the well-fancied Layton No 3 and Falcon No 2 teams are well there and could yet fight out the final at Claremont on May 13.
Last year Durban Hotel (Cleveleys) beat Cemetery from Darwen in the final and now Alan Kenny's lads have moved on to become the Falcon's second team.
They face a tough match in the quarter-finals to a Borough Hotel team that have been carrying all before them in the Darwen League and are favourites to pip Cemetery for the championship.
Borough have dropped only one frame in their two county matches so far. Falcon and Highfield each have two teams still in contention, but it is the Layton lads who look likely to make the biggest impact.
They cruised to a 4-1 win over Royal in their first match and now face a lengthy trek to Jimmy Nelson's SC (Nelson).
East Lancs hopes seem to rest on Top Break (Burnley) and Alexandra from Nelson.
The draw:
Cherry Tree (Blackburn) v Burnleywood Con, Highfield No1 (Blackpool) v Top Break (Burnley), Borough (Darwen) v Falcon No2 (Poulton), Hoddlesden (Darwen) v Cemetery (Darwen).
British Legion No2 (Clitheroe) v Highfield No 2 (Blackpool), Falcon No1 (Poulton) v Star Cycling No2 (Nelson), J Nelson's SC (Nelson) v Layton No3 (Blackpool), Alexandra (Nelson) v Rishton Free Gardeners.
