LYTHAM ST ANNES 1ST XI 0 DEESIDE RAMBLERS 1
IN this Northern Counties Hockey League (Div 2) match played on the excellent new astroturf pitch at Deeside, LSA can consider themselves slightly unlucky to lose by the only goal of the match, scored in the time allowed for a penalty corner to be completed right at the end of the match.
Until then both sides had fought out an even battle in the centre of the pitch, play switching backwards and forwards from end to end.
Although the whole side played good, attractive hockey, Chris Kay deserves special mention for a really polished performance.
LYTHAM ST ANNES 2ND XI 1
MANCHESTER UNIVERSITY 2ND XI 2
PLAYING in the Berrymans Law Mawer NW League (Div 5) at Ansdell, LSA squandered chance after chance from numerous short corners and were thoroughly outclassed by ten fit young students.
After a dismal first half, during which two goals were scored against them, LSA rallied slightly enabling Richard Isherwood to score from a penalty corner.
Raj Toor and Mike Hartley both worked hard to rally their team all to no avail.
LYTHAM ST ANNES 3RD XI 1
TIMPERLEY 4TH XI 0
PLAYING at Kirkham Grammar School in the Berrymans Lace Mawer NW League (Junior Div 3), LSA turned in a first class performance to ensure a reasonable mid-table league position.
The only goal came in the first half from a penalty corner with Gareth Gettings providing the final touch after the ball had been accurately placed from the goal line. LYTHAM ST ANNES 4TH XI 3
WARRINGTON 4TH XI 0
IN their last Berrymans Lace Mawer NW League (Junior Div 4) match of the season, LSA dominated the first half exchanges.
The first goal came after an excellent centre by Steve Brooks was converted by David Child.
In the second half David Collier-Brown increased the lead with a well taken goal after which Brooks added his second from a penalty stroke.
Young Chris Ashworth, making his debut in a senior side, had a great game.
LYTHAM ST ANNES BADGERS 4
BEBBINGTON 0
THIS was an encouraging result against a side who had beaten them 4-1 early in the season. With four seniors and seven juniors this Badgers team played some very good hockey. Olie Ashworth converted two penalty strokes and Stuart Waybey scored the other two.
However, the score could have been very different had Nick Parrott not had a superb performance in goal.
LYTHAM LADIES 1ST XI 2
LANCASTER LADIES 2ND XI 0
PLAYING at Ansdell, Lytham were quickly on to the attack, putting Lancaster under a great deal of pressure for the majority of the game.
Despite losing Michelle Singleton with a pulled hamstring minutes into the game, Lytham went ahead through Vicky Bloomer after eight minutes.
In the second half Lancaster rallied and Nicky Bagulay in goal was forced to make two great saves to keep her side in the lead, before her sister Dani scored her first goal of the season with a shot from the edge of the circle.
Sound defensive work by the back two of Kelly Ferguson, Kerry Hunt and Carrie Bower deserves special mention, although the whole team really turned in a first-class performance.
Lytham travel to play Springfields on Saturday (March 13) for their last league game of the season.
LYTHAM LADIES 2ND XI 3
LEYLAND FOXES 1
PLAYING away at Penwortham Priory, Lytham showed their real colours with exceptional attack and possession skills.
Michelle Sykes at centre forward scored the first goal, displaying exceptional skills with a fantastic stop and strike into the right hand corner of the goal.
The second half produced an even better performance by Lytham although Susie Lees had to make two good saves to keep her side in front.
Vicky Hadley scored Lytham's second goal before Leyland rallied to score their only goal.
Sue Wood and Jenny Reid then had to work tirelessly to prevent further goals.
Michelle Sykes put the result beyond doubt with another well taken corner after Fay Smith had propelled the ball accurately at speed from the goal line.
LYTHAM LADIES III 0
LANCASTER LADIES V 0
PLAYED at Hartley Park, both teams became engaged in a hard battle in centre field, but Lytham had slightly more of the chances especially when Emma Higgs crossed well to Clare Hall who narrowly missed the goal.
The second half was similar to the first although Lancaster cane near to scoring when Heather Driscoll, the Lytham captain, just deflecting a shot wide of the goal.
Similarly, Lytham narrowly missed a goal shortly before the end.
