PRESTON North End's blockbuster clash with Glasgow Rangers has been scrapped just weeks before kick off.
The testimonial game had been provisionally arranged with the Scottish side in a bid to raise cash for the Make A Splash Appeal which was aiming to have a bronze, life-like statue of Sir Tom Finney erected outside the new football museum, in Deepdale.
When plans for the game were announced last October, the then chief executive Peter Church said the game would be played on a Monday night in February or March.
But this week, PNE's Jeff McDougle said: "There is no Rangers game pencilled in for this season.
"It is not on our schedule for the end of the season, which means it won't be taking place."
Sir Tom said he felt the game may have been a victim of the modern-day fixture list.
He said: "Rangers are a top-flight club so they have a very hectic schedule.
"I am disappointed because it would have been a wonderful game."
