LANCASHIRE Lynx's flying start to life in Division One has been given another boost with the arrival of two new players.

Ex-Wigan prop Ian Gildart and former Leigh back Jason O'Loughlin have arrived at the Victory Park outfit, giving the team an extra dimension.

According to coach Steve Hampson, his team has been crying out for experience - and that is exactly what he has got in the form of these two lads.

And the transfer activity won't end there, with Hampson threatening to bring in more players.

But it looks increasingly likely that stand-off Phil Jones will be on his way to Wigan.

He won man-of-the-match at the weekend in front of a Wigan scout, who was almost certainly looking at Jones - and he won't have left unimpressed.

His near immaculate performance at the weekend won him much praise from Hampson, who has admitted he would let Jones go if the player wanted to move on.

He said: "Good luck to him if he gets an offer to better himself. He is a clever player and had a great game.

"To play like he did under those conditions shows you have to take your hat off to him.

"I thought all the forwards had great games and they deserved this victory as much as anyone."

Meanwhile, Hampson has been asked to join the England cricket team's backroom staff to help Andy Flintoff on his road to fitness.

Hampson put Flintoff through hell to make him fitter before his successful winter tour in Zimbabwe and South Africa with the England A team.

Now he's got to put the finishing touches to the Preston player now that Flintoff has been picked for the England World Cup team.

Hampson said: "I've been asked to link up with him so he can shed a few pounds before the World Cup.

"Andy knows what is coming because I have spoken to him."

Flintoff cut out fatty foods and beer before the winter tour, which saw him score 544 runs, including a best score of 145.
