A YOUTH project in Burnley is being backed by Danbert Nobacon, a member of controversial chart toppers Chumbawamba.
Youth Works East Lancashire has been working with local people in the the Healey Wood and Burnley Wood to improve the quality of life in the community.
The Delph site in Healey Wood, a disused quarry, is being redeveloped into an outdoor leisure and recreational facility for all ages.
Youth Works is working closely with Groundwork East Lancashire to develop the site with funds from Barclays Site Savers.
Local youngster Peter Lockwood, 10, said: "It's cool. We are finally getting something in Healey Wood."
Danbert visited the site to see the work done by children who are designing and creating boards to transform empty properties. Youth Works project worker Beverley Worthington said: "Local young people identified the need to brighten up the area. There are a lot of empty, boarded-up houses which are unsightly.
"This will cheer everyone and hopefully cut down on vandalism."
Danbert, whose family still lives in Burnley, said: "I think it's great that young people are finally getting a say in their community and being listened to.
"There is obviously a real commitment by young people to make a difference and I fully support their efforts."
Youth Works is a charitable organisation created through a partnership of Crime Concern, Groundwork and Marks and Spencer.
