GUITARIST David Barnes quit pop rock band Easyrider after a musical bust-up - but his new rehearsal partner really fits "The Bill".
David, 20, from Pleasington, left the group and recorded his own three-track CD and has now teamed up with a television actress who has appeared in shows including cop series The Bill.
He quit the promising Accrington band because of frustration with the group's slow progress and found satisfaction writing material alone.
He said: "On this CD it is just me - I play lead guitar, bass and I sing. I left Easyrider because we weren't doing anything - just arguing and not getting enough done. So I thought I would do things by myself.
"I found it easier not working with someone else. I hear all the instruments and the ideas for songs in my head. It was difficult having other people try and play what I was imagining. Sometimes it's hard to explain but if you play it yourself then it comes out the way you hear it."
David, who is studying Spanish and business studies in Manchester, played acoustic guitar, electric guitar and bass on the three-track CD he recorded at MJM Studios, Oswaldtwistle.
"I wrote and produced everything, although Mark from MJM helped with programming the drums and keyboards," he said.
His inspiration for the tracks draws on influences like Suede, REM and New Order. The guitar sound on first track Your Calling Memory is very much like Suede's early records and second track Don't Ripple In Wonder has a simulated orchestra section on it. The third song Angel Wings builds slowly with a gently throbbing bassline.
David wrote the first two tracks three years ago but it was only after he left Easyrider that he decided to record them. The third track was written after he left the band.
Although he enjoys working alone, David realises he needs to be part of a band if he is to have a successful career in music.
He is now writing and practising with television actress Ursula Holden Gill and hopes to form a new group soon. Ursula, 24, of Coldstream Place, Blackburn, has appeared on shows including The Bill and this week's episode of the BBC-1 comedy Mrs Merton and Malcolm.
David said: "Ursula has been singing with me. We have been writing material together and now we're hoping to build a band around that. One of the people I hope will join is a classical guitarist and I also want to have keyboards, bass and percussion."
Meanwhile, Easyrider, who remain friends with David, have been rehearsing with a replacement guitarist.
