ICE HOCKEY: Hawks season came to a sad end when they caught a Chill at Swindon on Saturday night.
Bobby Haig's men were blown away, a weakened side proving a pushover for the home outfit who could even have had more goals to show such was their superiority.
Without star striker Andrew Dickson through injury and missing the likes of Billy Price, Tom Burridge, Dan Mackriel and Michael Thompson, Hawks were a shadow of the side that has performed so gallantly this season to finish a creditable third in the English Premier League.
Hawks goal came in the first period through Canadian Lamonte Polet, but they were completely overwhelmed in the second and third periods, conceding 13 times as Swindon ran riot.
It was a big night for young netminder Glen Pearson who, at 15, provided the back-up for Barry Hollyhead and came on for the final 10 minutes to make his debut.
Period scores: 3-1, 7-0, 6-0. Scoresheet: Lamonte Polet 1+0, Matt Jones 0+1, Bobby Haig 0+1.
Last night Hawks got back to winning ways to bring the curtain down on the Arena season in a representative clash with a team selected from players throughout the English Division One.
Dickson, Polet and Mackriel all scored hat tricks as Hawks ran out 14-3 victors.
The first two periods at 2-0 and 5-2 were reasonably tight, but Hawks strength came through in the final 20 minutes as they ran in seven goals.
Wesley Barnett, Jason Fitton, Jamie Thompson, Bobby Haig and Len Giacolone completed the scoresheet.
