I REALLY must disagree with the comments of Duncan McVee in his reply (Letters, March 10) to Councillor David Pearson.
He appears to take the rather naive view that the debate on whether Britain joins the single currency will be fought on party lines - if you're a Labour voter, you vote 'yes' if a Tory voter, you vote 'no.'
This is not so. I have been a socialist all my life but on the issue of the single currency I will vote 'no.'
Unlike Mr McVee, I am content to be governed from Westminster. I have little doubt that if Britain does sign up to the single currency, it will be a decision that the British people will live to regret.
Finally, I would like to know where Mr McVee saw an opinion poll that said nearly half the British people were in favour of the single currency. All the ones I have seen show a big majority in favour of keeping the pound.
