WARRIORS started well and capitalised on several mistakes by the opposition to lead 16-10 in a match that ended Leyland Warriors U9s 26 Folly Lane (Swinton) 46.
However, Folly Lane came back strongly to lead 22-16 at half-time. The Warriors made too many mistakes in the second half and Folly Lane took advantage to run in five second half tries.
In the match against Portico Panthers, the final score was Warriors U10s 22 Portico Panthers 18.
An outstanding win with 100 per cent commitment and performance from the whole team. Craig Hewlett ran from 20 metres of the Leyland side, never giving up, resulting in him scoring under the sticks which was a joy to watch for the spectators. The defence and attack were particularly good.
In the match against Salford Juniors, the final score was Warriors U11s 22 Salford Juniors 42.
A below par performance from the Warriors allowed a Salford side to hold them off. Tackling was not up to standard which let the game slip away from the Leyland side and allowed the opposition to take control of the game.
In the match against Portico and Grange Park, the final score was Warriors U12s 48 Portico and Grange Park 4.
A good team performance with solid defence, good ball play and total commitment from everyone resulted in this convincing win. Neel Byrom opened the scoring. Portico did not get out of their own half until towards the end of the first half.
The second half opened with errors on both sides, but centre Andy Watson re-opened Warriors' scoring account. A kick from the fifth tackle bounced kindly for the home side, resulting in Portico's only score, but prop forward James Crowther quickly followed up with his second try of the match.
In the match against Chorley, the final score was Warriors U13s 56 Chorley 8.
THE U13s kept up their winning ways with this comprehensive victory. Local rivals Chorley gave a much improved display, giving Leyland a few early scares. Leyland Warriors' fitness and all-round game play proved too much for Chorley. Leyland finished off with a full length of the pitch try by man of the match Wes Loram.
In the match against Langworthy, the final score was Warriors U15s 20 Langworthy 24
THESE two teams provided the spectators and supporters with an excellent game of competitive rugby. Both squads competed throughout and played with enthusiasm and commitment. The difference between the two sides was two penalties conceded by Warriors immediately in front of their own posts. Anthony Hughes added two tries by captain William Fell, man of the match Paul Cowling (2) and Paul Brown with two conversions.
