DOCTOR Keith Robinson, who has recorded the weather from a local observatory for more than 20 years, was been honoured for his dedication to meteorology.
Dr Robinson welcomed meteorologists from the UK headquarters of the Met Office, in Bracknell, to his base at the University of Central Lancashire's Jeremiah Horrocks Observatory.
He was presented with a glass trophy as tribute to the all-year-round service he has offered to the Met Office - come rain or shine. Dr Robinson has often been asked to give weather recordings to the police and criminal courts, to corroborate or disprove evidence.
Since he started work at the observatory in 1978, Dr Robinson recalls two memorable events: the temperature soaring to 33.3 degrees centigrade on August 2, 1990, and June 2, 1982, when two inches of rain fell in Preston in just one evening, leading to flash floods.
