AS a supporter of the British Trust for Conservation Volunteers, and having helped Mr David Bentley with some environmental tasks in the past, I agree with his recent assertion that the council has done little to support conservation issues.
People have been asked their views but then development plans have been approved by the council regardless of any protests.
Here in Walshaw there was strong opposition to houses being built on a field at the top of Walshaw Road, yet the scheme went ahead. And a house is currently being built on fields behind Brookthorpe Road. I was told that permission to build there had been given as it was not in a green belt area.
In my opinion, building should not only be resisted on green belt land but in all rural areas. Humans bring noise and discourage the presence of wildlife.
