WITH the highlights in the media of various sorts of hunts, we are left with an ethical dilemma.
How can we bring up issues about halal meat, for instance, when during hare-coursing, the defenceless animals must be subjected to such a degree of psychological torment.
It would be enough to kill the pitiful things, let alone the few being ripped by these faceless hounds. I mean, how could this be going on in this so-called Britain of the new millennium?
Let's face it, it is not a question of nuisance numbers, but bloodsports.
The example of a humane Britain obviously would not hold much in the wider world when dealing with wildlife issues. With New Zealand introducing a bill on chimpanzee rights, we cannot deny these creatures theirs.
We need to legislate.
