SAFETY traffic lights at a notorious accident blackspot were set to have thwarted Burnley's triathlon, but a solution has been found.
Lights have been introduced at the junction of Todmorden Road, New Road, Bacup Road and Burnley Road and organisers were concerned that the triathlon would not be able to pass safely through the interchange.
But, after consultation with the police, a solution has been found.
Marshals will note the times of the cycling competitors as they approach the lights and will restart the race after they cross the double set of lights.
The event, which attracted more than 150 competitors last year, will go-ahead on May 16.
It involves swimming 800m at the Thompson Centre, cycling between Burnley and Bacup and a five-mile canal run.
There is also a novice biathlon to accommodate beginners which includes a 400m swim and a five-mile canal run.
