Lydney 62 Liverpool St Helens 17 LSH reverted to mid season form on Saturday after recent improvement and suffered a heavy defeat in Gloucestershire.
Lydney, always difficult to beat on home soil, took the many chances presented to them by a paper thin LSH defence and ran in nine tries, seven of which were converted.
LSH's cause was not helped by the absence of Kevin Davies, and Brian Wellens although the coach did appear as 'blood sub' twice during the game.
Flying boots caused cuts and temporary retirement to Simon Worsley, Jon Hitchen, Martin Boys and Dominic Carter at various stages, and this affected cohesion and game plan.
The forwards competed manfully and matched the home team in all phases, but the backs had games they would wish to forget, with the exception of Chris Glynn, Mark Sephton and David Topping.
Hooker Jon Hitchen was the pick of the forwards and scored two tries. Mark Sephton scored the other one and Chris Glynn converted one.
LSH have no game on Saturday, but on March 27 they entertain fellow strugglers Morley in what has always been a hard fought encounter.
