Shaw Rhinos 46 Parr Hare & Hounds 10 HOUNDS belied their position at the foot of the table with this spirited show against the Iestyn Harris-coached championship favourites.
The final scoreline flatters Shaw somewhat as there was little to choose between the sides for much of a game played in good spirit throughout.
Hounds tackled well for the most part, but temporary lapses, often on the last tackle, proved costly, as did the occasional handling error, with Shaw grabbing seven of their eight touchdowns either on the sixth tackle or directly from a dropped ball by the visitors.
Overall though this was an improved display by a young Hounds side and one that augurs well for the future.
Winger Neil Briers scored Hounds' first try from a good long pass by scrum-half Paul Martin, and stand-off Ste Hill touched down for the second, converted by prop Stu Haycock.
The elusive Hill and hard-working hooker Barry Dearden were outstanding for Hounds, with solid displays also from second-rows Phil Thompson and Paul Proudlove, props Mark Houghton and Haycock, full-back Mike Corrrigan and centre Dave Haggerty.
THERE were no winners in the Hounds' 'Predict The Score' competition.
