PLANS to let the public see Bury's new-look Territorial Army were off target at the weekend. Only a handful of people walked through the Castle Armoury Drill Hall doors to see for themselves how C Company (Fusiliers), the 4th Battalion, The Queen's Lancashire Regiment, has coped since escaping recent defence cuts.
The latest military equipment was on show throughout Saturday's event, which was part of a national initiative to raise awareness of the TA, its changing role and the part it plays in the community.
Officer in Charge, Captain John O'Grady, played down the poor attendance figures. He said: "We have never had a problem with recruiting in Bury. Most of it is done on our Tuesday training evenings and by word of mouth. Those who turned out were impressed by our standards."
