INFORMATION technology (IT) specialist Richard Tomlinson has joined Bolton and Bury Chamber's Business Link to help local companies make more effective use of IT.

Says Richard: "I'm here for local companies and, what's more, my advice is totally independent."

As well as visiting local businesses, to help them improve their own IT practices, he will be in charge of Busness Link's new Business Innovation and Design Centre based at its Walmersley Road headquarters in Bury.

This is a conference and seminar centre with hands-on IT, Internet and design demonstration facilities. It is a centre of excellence for the use of Bury and Bolton-based businesses.

The hi-tech "one stop shop" incorporates a video conferencing suite, offering TV quality picture and transmission speed, and a design centre - demonstrating all the latest software packages.

It also embraces another hi-tech communications suite where companies can learn more about networking, e-commerce and the Internet, spreadsheets and other new computer applications.
